Educational Cycle

Training of students at the Pedagogical University lasts from four till six years. Disciplines and elective courses are distributed along the years of training to provide their continuity, to carry out psychological and pedagogical and methodical readiness at the upper courses, and also to react flexibly to students' requirements to new knowledge.

The educational year consists of two semesters. Studies at faculties are organized according to the semestrial schedule. Control over the educational activity of students is done during examinations. Upon the end of examinations the appointment to the scholarships is made. At the end of the academic year students who have successfully taken the curriculum are transferred by the Rector's order to the next course. Students have a possibility to take practice - to check up themselves, to realize theoretical knowledge in real business. Average duration of practice for all period of training is 20 weeks. The practice base can be schools, teachers' colleges, boarding schools, preschool centers, museums, galleries, libraries, advertizing agencies, etc. Annually students have teaching practice in children's recreation camps of the Yaroslavl region and Krasnodar territory. Many students of upper courses continue to work and after the practice, reserving a place for the future employment.

And what about vacation? The total amount of vacation time for the academic year is not less than 7-10 weeks, including two weeks - in winter.

Teachers

The main property of the University is highly skilled teachers, 100 of them are Doctors of sciences, professors. It is a gold fund of the Russian higher school. Among teachers of the University are 26 full members and member-correspondents of the Russian and foreign academies; four honoured workers of Culture of the Russian Federation, three honoured workers of Higher School of the Russian federation, seven honoured workers of Psychical Training of the Russian Federation, two honoured inventors of the Russian Federation, two honoured doctors of the Russian Federation, nine honoured teachers of the Russian Federation, 62 high achievers of popular schooling, 60 honoured workers of higher vocational education of the Russian Federation. The University invites leading professors and scientists to read lectures from the Russian and foreign universities.


Scientific Researches

The scientific researches done in the University, have fundamental and applied character. High-quality researches are conducted in 35 scientific and pedagogical collectives.

The total amount of financing of scientific researches has exceeded 100 million rubles a year. The collective under the supervision of the Doctor of Chemistry, Professor M.V. Dorogov, nowadays is on the level of introducing results of the researches into industrial production of the newest medical products within the limits of the pharmaceutical cluster created in the Yaroslavl region, has achieved the greatest success. Results of the activity and other scientific personnel impress, they are: the collective under the supervision of the academician of the Russian Open Society, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor V.D.Shadrikov in the field of Psychology, under the supervision of the honored worker of Science of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Art Criticism, Professor T.S. Novikov in the field of Theoretical-Methodological Bases of Historical Sciences and Historical Education, under the supervision of the honored worker of Science of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor M. I. Rozhkov in the field of the Theory and Pedagogics History, under the supervision of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor V.V. Rozhkov, E.I.Smirnov, O.Ju.Trykova, G.N. Kocheshkov, L.V. Bayborodova, M.A. Terentyev, A.V. Muraviov, A.D. Vikulov, G.Ju. Filipovsky, A.M.Ermakov, E.V.Karpova, O.A.Koryakovtseva, N.N. Letina, N.V. Dutov, T.I.Yerokhina are the most active professors in the edition of monographies.

Teachers of the University take an active part in preparation and edition of various learning-methodical literature. During the last years were published the textbooks by V.V. Afanasiev, E.Ju.Kolbovsky, S.G. Makeeva, Ju.A. Pervin, M.I. Rozhkov, L.N. Sukhorukova, V.A. Shchenev, I.M. Butin, T.G. Kuchina, L.V. Bayborodova, T.F.Chernyakovskaya, N.V. Nizhegorodtseva, A.E.Simanovsky.

Articles of teachers and post-graduate students of the University are published in the magazine "Yaroslavl Pedagogical Bulletin" published by the University, and in leading scientific, literary and art and political magazines of the country, in foreign periodical press. Results of scientific researches are used in the educational process in the form of new lecture courses, special courses, methodical recommendations. and political magazines of the country, in foreign periodical press. International Cooperation

In the University students study not only from Russia, but also from the ex-USSR countries, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, the USA and some European countries. Since 2000 on the basis of the contract with the educational center EMONO-R (Tallinn) distance training of Russian-speaking students and post-graduate students in Estonia was conducted. About 300 students and 30 post-graduate students were taught there. In 2003 the first defense of final qualifying works and Candidate's theses took place. The University annually accepts foreign students for language training and gives opportunity to YSPU students to be trained abroad. Cooperation agreements with universities, colleges and educational centers from the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Belarus, Bulgaria, Israel, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Japan, Sweden, Italy have been made and operate at the present time.

In 2006 in cooperation with the Higher school of P.Vlodkovitsa Plock (Poland) the University has acted as a founder of the International Institute of Intercultural Communications which conducts a successful educational activity in Poland, Russia and other countries.

According to the contract between YSPU and Middlbury college ( USA, Vermont), at the University every academic year students are taught on the programme "Russian as a Foreign Language", about 20 American students study. This cooperation started in 2008. There are 3 Language Schools of Middlebury College in Russia. School in Yaroslavl is a leading one due to staff's high proficiency and good results achieved by students. The programme "Russian as a Foreign Language" may last 1 or 2 semesters. The programme includes 20 hours of classes per week. The possible courses:

This programme is oriented to students of the different Russian level. Being a student of this programme, the student may choose and attend any course which is studied in our University, in different faculties such as: the Faculty of History, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, the Natural and Geographic Faculty (including Biology, Chemistry), the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the Faculty of Physical Training, Pedagogical Faculty, the Faculty of Russian Philology and Culture, the Faculty of Speech Pathology, the Faculty of Social Management. Since 2011 at the Faculty of Foreign Languages the Japanese language is taught by the native speaker, professor from Nagoya University. In 2011 the agreement between YSPU and Zhetysu State University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov was signed on academic mobility of teaching staff and students.

Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky is open for all kinds of international cooperation with other universities and organisations.

A Leading Center of Pedagogical Education

The University has a leading role in pedagogical education development in the Yaroslavl region. Development of cooperation with secondary pedagogical schools led to creation of the University Complex in 1992. This complex includes the Pedagogical University and 4 pedagogical colleges in Rostov, Rybinsk, Uglich, Yaroslavl. The main direction of this cooperation is coordinated organisation of the educational process which makes possible for college graduates to get higher education in a reduced period in the University. The structure of the University and colleges includes educational institutions of the preschool, primary and secondary (full) general education: base preschool institutions, base schools, gymnasiums, lyceums. The educational and pedagogical complex is an interregional system of non-stop education which unites all its steps - beginning from preschool education and finishing by doctoral studies.

The activity of the University complex creates growth points for educational institutions which are its members. The University opened its branches in Uglich, Rybinsk and Rostov. In 2003 the University complex was transformed into the Association of educational institutions "Non-Stop Vocational Education". Its founders: Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University named after K.D.Ushinsky, Rostov Pedagogical College, Rybinsk Pedagogical College, Uglich Industrial-Pedagogical College, Yaroslavl Interregional College of Town Planning and Management, Yaroslavl Industrial Pedagogical College and members of the Association: Bezhets Pedagogical School, Kalyazino Pedagogical School (the Tver region), Velikoustyug Pedagogical School (the Vologda region), Rybinsk Polygraph College (the Yaroslavl region), Kotlas Pedagogical College (the Arkhangelsk region), Syktyvkar Pedagogical College ¹2 (the Komi Republic), Vologda Pedagogical College (the Vologda region).

For the successes which were achieved in teachers' training, in 1971 the Institute was awarded the Order of the Labour Red Banner. New buildings are being built, educational programmes are being developed. In 1993 the Institute was transformed into Yaroslavl state pedagogical university.

The Pedagogical University is a patriarch among higher educational institutions of Yaroslavl. For 100 years 72 thousand experts in education were trained. Graduates of the University successfully worked and work in many fields. Its role in the cultural-public life of Yaroslavl and area is huge. The considerable contribution into science was made and is being made now by its scientists.
